SynMat 9 LW

179.99  199.99

The SynMat 9 does not reach the insulating properties of a DownMat 9 but offers the same high comfort, low weight, durability, and small packed size. The synthetic microfiber filling is less expensive than down. The warmth to weight ratio of our SynMat is superior to traditional sleeping mats.

  • Allow the mat to regenerate prior to its first use. Open the valves and leave out at room temperature and unrolled to recover from compression for a day.

  • In normal use, once in camp, open the inflation valve and leave out to recover. This will allow the insulation to expand and pull in some air. Then inflate the mat completely. This is best done by kneeling next to the mat and using both hands to cover the integrated pump completely, then pressing in as much air as possible per compression. Note that the hand over the pumps hole acts as a valve cap and should seal with every downward push. The mat will inflate completely with 1 to 1.5 minutes.

  • If after inflation the pump is not fully inflated, you can refill the pump with air by squeezing theround marking at the end of the curved line under the word ‘integrated pump’ with your thumb andforefinger. This relieves the one way flap allowing air to flow back into the pump. You can also use this method to adjust the firmness of the mat while laying on it. Just open the inflation valve and squeeze.

  • Inflate to personal comfort level. The more you inflate the mat, the warmer and firmer it will be. Thisis a question of individual preference. Let comfort guide you.

  • Valve caps are most easily closed by pressing down with one thumb at cap hinge while walkingyour other thumb around the edge of the cap.

Open the deflation valve first. Then starting from the footend roll-up loosely and kneel on the bundle to press out as much air as possible. The one way flap of the valve will prevent air from re-entering the mat. Now fold the mat lengthwise in thirds to fit the width of the packsack. Again from the foot end roll tightly. The place the bundle in the packsack.

  • Dirt is the number one enemy of any textile product as minute dust grains abrade the fabrics. Therefore we recommend you wash the mat from time to time with mild soap and lukewarm water. Never machine wash, dry clean or tumble dry.

  • Keep the mat away from heat sources such as fire or a car or tent during the day. The air within the mat can expand and put extreme pressure on baffles, seams and laminates which can then lead to ruptured seam or malfunction.

  • Keep the mat away from sharp objects like thorns, corals, rocks or branches and dogs.

  • Do not use mechanical pumps as they can generate excess pressure which can lead to seam delamination.

  • Keep valves clean as dirt or sand can have negative effects on the airtight seal. Use a little water to wipe the valve clean.

  • If you move the mat from warm to cold places, or inflate the mat while temperature as warm and then they drop you will experience a loss of pressure in the mat which may lead you to believe the mat is punctured. This is not the case, it is just contraction of the warm air and physics.

  • In extreme cold the foam of the integrated pump may freeze up, especially when humid. In such a case it helps to warm up the pump by holding it close to the body, sitting on it or placing a bottle of warm water on it.

  • Changes of pressure: quick changes from sealevel to mountain heights can lead to partial vacuum and make it hard to open the valve. Open them prior to travel.

  • Mat as chair: we recommend using the ExpedChairKit which allows you to convert your mat to a chair our lounger as well as offering additional protection against abrasion, dirt and punctures.

  • As with any air filled product, a mat can puncture. For extended or expedition use we recommend the Exped Mat Cover as this offers additional protection.

Store your mat unrolled and with open valves in a dry, cool and dark place such as under your bed or the attic.

Keep away from pets!
